Anthem is now available to players who subscribe to Origin Access Premier, so it's safe to presume that there are a decent amount of Freelancers who are currently seeking some solid guns to improve their Javelin loadouts. One of the highest-tiered weapons a player can get will be labelled as a Masterwork, and they can be obtained by loot drops and through crafting.

For those Anthem fans who may have received a Masterwork weapon via loot drop and aren't happy with the gun's stat roll, crafting can be used to provide them with a new version of the gun that has another set of randomly generated stats. That said, a Masterwork blueprint is required for crafting, and the blueprint will only unlock for this weapon rarity level once players complete a given challenge related to using that specific firearm.

For instance, a Masterwork gun might charge Anthem players with the challenge of killing 10 legendary enemies with that weapon. Once the challenge is done, the blueprint for that weapon will then become available.

When the blueprint is acquired, it can be used over and over again until one gets the roll they want. It must be noted, though, that Anthem players will need to have a certain number of Masterwork Embers in order to craft the high-tiered gun, and doing so requires a substantial amount these ingredients. With this being the case, Freelancers will need to gather as much Ember as possible to get the job done.

Ember can be acquired as a bonus item from loot drops in Anthem, and it's best to beat tougher enemies like Elder Ash Titans in order to stock up on Masterwork Embers. Taking on Strongholds and completing Legendary Contracts at progressively higher levels of difficulty are also known to increase the chance of getting Masterwork Embers, if not a Masterwork piece or even Legendary gear itself.

Another way to find the resource is from searching through chests and nodes scattered around the map. Of course, Embers and their rarity is doled out randomly through this method, and BioWare even recently introduced a patch nerfing chest farming. So, there's also the option to break down any unwanted equipment, with there being a chance of receiving Ember that way as well.

All things considered, crafting Masterwork weapons in Anthem shouldn't be that difficult of a process, particularly once players have reached the current level cap of 30. However, the activity will likely be time consuming, especially if one's looking for a specific roll on a Masterwork gun of their choice.

Anthem officially goes live for everyone on February 22, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Anthem: How to Craft Masterwork Weapons

EA and BioWare's Anthem has a wide array of different weaponry that players can use, but some of the most useful are Masterworks, so here's how to craft them.

War Chest drops was not lucky for me, I would like to craft Masterwork. Do I need to use . Image result for masterwork component anthem. Here you can see.

Anthem is having a week. Last Friday, in an effort to improve Anthem's endgame grind and fix a few critical issues - for example, the one crashing PS4s - BioWare released update 1.0.3. Among other things, this update removed common and uncommon items from the reward pool for high-level activities - and by other things, I mean catalyzing the latest in a wearying line of controversies around Anthem's loot system.

As players quickly noticed, update 1.0.3 also unintentionally buffed the drop rates of Masterwork and Legendary gear. Players were thrilled to see endgame activities regularly reward endgame gear: in a Reddit post with nearly 6,000 upvotes, user -Supp0rt- asked BioWare to keep the overbuffed drop rates. Sadly, the loot rain ended shortly after the update went live when BioWare returned the drop rates to normal.

Intentional or not, many Anthem players preferred the bugged loot system. In response to this feedback, BioWare live services head Chad Robertson addressed the situation on Twitter, saying, "We appreciate all the feedback from the community on the game. We love the passion and share it. We’re not yet fully happy with the game’s loot behavior either … In the next few months, we’re expecting to make significant changes, but we’re starting with some incremental ones so we can better navigate that evolution."

More recently, in a Reddit post which has over 10,000 upvotes at the time of this writing, user Afinda encouraged players to protest Anthem's loot system by boycotting the game for a week - this week, in fact. "Bring back the bug and let us taste the loot shower," it reads. "Stop playing from [March 11 - March 15] to make a point." Regardless of whether this movement has any real impact on Anthem's player count, the fact that it's even a thing is pretty telling.

As if organized protest wasn't enough, another looting bug has come to Anthem, and players really don't like this one. Masterwork Embers, the raw crafting materials used to make Masterwork items, have all but vanished since update 1.0.3. Countless players have reported seeing dramatically lower drop rates on these Embers since the update, most notably in these posts from Reddit users lagrue and 123SpreadOnToast

BioWare community manager Jesse Anderson confirmed that Masterwork Embers are dropping less frequently than they should, and said an incoming fix will "get drop rates back up to what they were before the 1.0.3 update." Of course, that just brings us back to that update, and players clearly weren't happy with that either. The timing of the Ember bug and the rescinded Masterwork drop rates really couldn't have been worse, but they're both just symptoms of a bigger problem with Anthem's loot system.

Relatedly, here are 11 key Anthem problems that really need to be fixed.

As you progress through Anthem, you will quickly find that the game focuses very heavily on crafting, as the complex system allows you the ability to upgrade your Javelin’s components, gear, and even weapons.

The more you craft and upgrade, the stronger your Javelin will become, making it easier to complete missions and defeat enemies. If you’re planning on tackling some of Anthem’s end-game content, crafting the strongest Javelin possible will be vital.

From learning how to gather materials to understanding Blueprints, this guide will teach you everything you need to know about crafting in Anthem.

How to Unlock Crafting in Anthem[edit]

Unfortunately, crafting in Anthem isn’t available right off the bat and to unlock it, you will be required to complete the first several missions of the game.

Upon returning to Fort Tarsis after the completion of the Lost Arcanist mission, you will be prompted to speak with a man called Prospero in the marketplace. Here, you will receive the briefing for the 'Lighting a Fire' mission and will be asked to collect and return three pieces of Ember.

Once you have found the three pieces of Ember, make your way back to Prospero where he will grant you access to crafting and also the ability to purchase unique time-limited skins and crafting components from his Featured Store.

Crafting Materials in Anthem[edit]

With crafting now unlocked, it’s time to start upgrading and crafting all new components, weapons, and gear to make your Javelin as strong and unique as possible.

There are currently eleven different types of crafting materials in Anthem that you can collect, with each material often being used to craft specific upgrades.

Please note though, that Ember, Javelin Specific Parts, Chimeric Alloy, and Chimeric Compound can be purchased through Prospero’s Featured Store or Sayrna’s Regulator Store for coins.

Chimeric Alloy and Chimeric Compound[edit]

Defined as Anthem’s most basic crafting materials, Chimeric Alloy and Chimeric Compound are used to craft weapons, gear, and javelin components.

Ember (Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Masterwork Embers)[edit]

Arguably the most sort after material in Anthem, Ember plays an essential part to the crafting system and is used to create almost every item in the game – gear, weapons, and even components.

Depending on the requirement of your Blueprint, Ember comes in six different types of rarity: common, uncommon, rare, epic, and masterwork.

Javelin Specific Parts (Interceptor, Ranger, Colossus, and Storm)[edit]

Javelin specific parts are used primarily to craft unique components and weapons for your Javelin.

Weapons Parts[edit]

Weapon Parts are used solely for crafting new weapons for your Javelin.

Understanding Ember Rarity Drop Rates[edit]

Before you go out of your way in an attempt to obtain a certain rarity of Ember, it is important to note that the Ember drop rate is based solely on your Pilot level. Meaning, that regardless of your level or the difficulty that you are playing on you will only ever receive the maximum tier of Ember that is available for your level.

Check out the tier list below that details the maximum rarity of Ember that you can receive at your level.

  • Pilot Level 1-9: Up to Uncommon (Green)
  • Pilot Level 10-19: Up to Rare (Blue) loot
  • Pilot Level 20-29: Up to Epic (Purple) loot
  • Pilot Level 30+: Up to Masterwork (Orange) loot

How to Obtain Crafting Materials in Anthem[edit]

Before you can begin crafting though, you are going to need to gather materials. Materials can be harvested throughout the world of Bastion, found inside Treasure Chests, rewarded through Challenges, or even purchased through Prospero’s Featured Store, as well as Sayrna’s Regulator Store.

With so many different methods available for obtaining crafting materials, here are some of the best ways to find each of the eleven materials in Anthem.

How to Obtain Chimeric Alloy and Chimeric Compound in Anthem[edit]

The fastest way to obtain Chimeric Alloy and Chimeric Compound is through Free Play and exploring the vast environments of Bastion. Chimeric Alloy is Anthem’s mineral-based material and is frequently found in the form of hard crystal-like rocks.

You will often find Chimeric Alloy around caves and underground environments, whereas Chimeric Compound is a plant-based material that is harvested all throughout Bastion’s lush vegetation.

Thankfully, these materials are prevalent throughout the map and stand out pretty well, making them hard to miss.

How to Obtain Ember (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Masterwork) in Anthem[edit]

The process of obtaining Ember is thankfully rather simple but will require a fair bit of grinding to accumulate the amount needed for each upgrade you are trying to perform. The following methods can be used to obtain Ember:

  • One of the easiest ways of obtaining Ember is through Salvaging any gear, weapons, or components that you don’t plan on using. In most cases, Ember will usually appear at the same level of rarity of the item you are salvaging.
  • Along with receiving Chimeric Alloy and Chimeric Compound when harvesting from plants and minerals around Bastion, you also have the chance of obtaining Ember.
  • Completing World Events while exploring Bastion is yet another method for obtaining Ember. While World Events aren’t necessarily long or challenging – especially when completed with a team – they can be a little hard to find at times. To receive the Ember though, be sure to check the Treasure Chests that appear after completing each World Event (look for the chest icon that will appear in the game).
  • If you have managed to grow a rather impressive stack of coins, you can always purchase Embers from Prospero’s Featured Store or Sayrna’s Regulator Store for some rather hefty prices.

How to Obtain Javelin Specific Parts in Anthem[edit]

In most cases, Javelin parts can are found when looting Piles of Scrap, Treasure Chests, or even when salvaging gear, weapons, and other components.

How to Obtain Weapon Parts in Anthem[edit]

Weapon Parts in Anthem are found when looting Piles of Scrap, Treasure Chests, and even when salvaging other weapons.

What Are Blueprints[edit]

Materials aren't the only required needed to start crafting in Anthem, as you will also need to acquire Blueprints.

Blueprints are one of the most important items within the game, as they allow you to craft better weapons and gear for your Javelin. Without Blueprints, your Javelin will not have access to key weapons, gear, and components.

Like other crafting items in Anthem, blueprints come in several different rarities: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Masterwork, and Legendary.

With seven different Blueprints available, here are the current blueprints types that are available to be unlocked.

  • Javelin Specific Abilities
  • Ability and Elemental Components
  • Ammo and Armor Components
  • Weapons
  • Weapon Sigils

Unlike Ember’s though, the process to upgrade your gear and weapons to the next level of rarity is much simpler as you will only need to complete a series of challenges. These challenges can be found within your Cortex, underneath the Challenges tab.

How to Craft Better Weapons in Anthem Using Blueprints[edit]

Although random Blueprints can be obtained by completing missions and world events, the most efficient way to collect and unlock a bunch of uncommon, rare, epic, or masterwork blueprints at once is through the completion of Faction Loyalty activities and Weapon Challenges.

Completing the activities below will grant you the following rewards. However, it is worth noting that you will need to complete your current challenge before you can move onto the next rarity tier.

Freelancer Activities:

  • Freelancer Loyalty 1 – Uncommon Universal Component Blueprints
  • Freelancer Loyalty 2 – Rare Universal Component Blueprints
  • Freelancer Loyalty 3 – Epic Universal Component Blueprints

Sentinel Activities

  • Sentinel Loyalty 1 – Uncommon Iconic Component Blueprints
  • Sentinel Loyalty 2 – Rare Iconic Component Blueprints
  • Sentinel Loyalty 3 – Epic Iconic Component Blueprints

Arcanist Activities (Must be level 10 to deloy):

  • Arcanist Loyalty 1 – Uncommon Sigil Blueprints
  • Arcanist Loyalty 2 – Rare Sigil Blueprints
  • Arcanist Loyalty 3 – Epic Sigil Blueprints

When it comes upgrading your Weapons and Gear, the process of unlocking Blueprints is very similar.

The Havoc I is a great example, as to unlock the Uncommon Blueprint for the weapon, you will need to defeat a total of 50 enemies. Once the challenge is completed, the uncommon Blueprint will unlock, and you will then have the option to complete the Rare Blueprint for the weapon.

How to Start Crafting in Anthem[edit]

Now that you have learned how to obtain both crafting materials and blueprints, you will want to head to the Forge and begin the process of upgrading your weapons and Javelin with all-new crafted items.

Before you start using your valuable materials, it is worth mentioning that crafting at early stages is highly not recommended. The main reason for this being, is that you will quickly outgrow any upgrades that you make within one or two missions. So, to avoid wasting your valuable time and materials, waiting to at least level 20 before you start investing your materials into new weapons, gear, and components.

The Forge -- which can be found in Fort Tarsis, right next to the launch bay that you frequently use to access your Javelin -- will be the only way that you can upgrade your Javelin and perform crafting.

To start crafting, enter the Forge. From here, select the specific item slot that you want to upgrade. Now, navigate to the 'craft' tab and you will be able to view all of your available blueprints for that specific slot.

When selecting the blueprint, you will find a list of requirements towards the bottom; this list will display all of the materials that are needed to craft the item.
