If you are a crafter that likes using clear stamps, then it’s only a matter of time before you build up a nice collection. Stamping can get quite addictive (in a fun way!), and having your clear stamps properly organized will encourage you to use your stamps more often.

It will also help you save time to find stamps easier and may save you money (so you don’t end up getting the same stamp set twice!)

I’ve rounded up some ideas for clear stamp storage that may work for you.

First things first though.

If your stamps came in cheap plastic bags, I highly recommend removing the stamp set from the plastic packaging. The packaging will eventually wear down after taking the stamps in and out repeatedly. That’s why I highly recommend putting them in more durable storage pockets such as these stamp pockets or these Avery Elle stamp pockets. This will help your stamps last longer and resist damage.

Then after they are in the pockets, you want to use this label maker to label your pockets so you can easily find them. I label the brand and the name of the stamp set.

If they came in cd or dvd cases, then you can keep them in the case if you prefer. You can also remove them from those cases, and place them in these clear stamp storage pockets to cut down on some of the bulk.

Once you have your stamp storage pockets or cases, here are some ways to store them.

Stamp Bins
I store my stamps vertically. I have these bins here for my background and larger stamp sets. You can also make dividers to separate our different groupings of stamps. If you find your bins in the store, just make sure there is enough room to fit your stamp pockets comfortably width wise. There also has to be enough height to your stamp pockets don’t fall out. Try to keep them out of direct sunlight or otherwise get bins with a lid like these.

Double bins
I got this idea from Jennifer McGuire since I have the Ikea Kallax Bookcase. These double freezer bins fit two rows of stamp pockets and also fit into an IKEA Kallax.

Binder
You can put your stamp pockets in a binder like this one with sheet protectors like these. I still recommend storing your stamps vertically with the binder standing up so they don’t get all squished from the weight.

CD/DVD holders
You can also place clear stamps in CD/DVD cases. Make sure to keep your stamps on acetate, one on the stamp part, one of the flat part to help protect them. This method is great if you’re planning to store and organize like books.

Zipper Envelopes
If you like store your stamps with some coordinating cardstock or embellishments, consider these very durable zipper envelopes. They hold a little more than a stamp pockets and have a zipper on top. They’re great for traveling or craft retreats.

Hanging Storage
I found this picture on pinterest From Britta Swiderski, where she hangs her most loved stamps from a rod. This might work for you and your most used stamps.

Wall Magazine Rack
For your most used stamps, you can also store them in a hanging magazine rack to have easy access to stamp you use on a regular basis: birthday, thank you, congratulations, etc.

How do you store your clear stamps?

Proper cleaning and storage of your rubber stamps is an easy way to extend the usable life of your rubber stamps.

Note: Some stamps can become stained after repeated use or after use with permanent inks. If your stamp is stained, but clean, it will not transfer old ink into your new project.

Supplies you may need to clean your stamps:

Soap and Water or Stamp Cleaner: Most non-staining inks can be washed off using mild soapy water (a small amount of dish washing detergent mixed in water is fine). A clean toothbrush is great for washing off ink that has become embedded in nooks or crannies in your rubber stamp. There are a number of great stamp cleaners on the market. Stamp cleaners gently clean and condition your rubber stamps. Some stamp cleaners are formulated for use with specific inks. For example, our memories stamp cleaner works really well for cleaning our memories ink off of your rubber stamps. It is also great for removing all kinds of water soluble inks.

Stamp Scrubber or a Toothbrush: Stamp scrubbers are reusable textured scrubbing pads that safely and effectively reach into the nooks and crannies of your rubber stamps to remove the bits of ink that are otherwise hard to reach. We highly recommend using either a stamp scrubber or a clean toothbrush to get your stamps completely clean before storage.

Directions for cleaning your rubber stamps:

Caution: Do not immerse wood mounted stamps in water or cleaner. This will damage your stamp.

Caution: Avoid cleaning products that contain alcohol. Alcohol can dry out your stamp and damage it permanently.

Step 1: Stamp Off

First, stamp the rubber stamp repeatedly on scrap paper to remove any surface ink.

Step 2: Clean with Rubber Stamp Cleaner or Soapy Water

Apply stamp cleaner to stamp (or weak soapy water if your ink is water soluble).

Step 3: Wipe Stamps with Stamp Scrubber Pad or a Clean Toothbrush

Use a little rinse water on your toothbrush or scrubber if you are using soapy water (stamp cleaner usually won't need to be rinsed off).

Step 4: When your stamp is clean and dry, store it on a flat surface away from direct sunlight.

As you can see, our stamp is fabulously clean after use.

Storing your rubber stamps:

Caution: Never store your stamps while they are dirty or wet.

There are many systems for stamp storage available. Choose one or make your own but be sure stamps are always stored clean, dry, flat, and away from direct sunlight.

Caution: Avoid storing rubber stamps in cardboard boxes. Direct contact between rubber and cardboard can dry your stamps out and reduce their useable life span.

For Wood Mounted Stamps:

May we suggest a cabinet or drawer? We love storing our rubber stamps in clear drawers. It keeps them organized, flat, and clean.

For Unmounted Stamps:

For unmounted stamps mounted using the EZMount™ system, we recommend EZMount Lightweight Stamp Storage Panels

EZMount™ panels are 3 hole punched for a standard 3-ring binder. Store your EZMount™ mounted unmounted stamps on 1 or both sides of these convenient panels.

Not using EZMount™? Then, you may want to try storing your unmounted stamps in repurposed CD jewel cases, in baseball card album sleeves, or in another type of storage system.

"Good sturdy folder apart from that" - by Miss A. Dymock (essex)
the inserts catch when you zip up the folder so you have to do it carefully and 'poke' them in as you go round the corners
Shame the inserts aren't included and that the ones you order are 1/2 size - but maybe I ordered the wrong ones?

"Exactly what I needed" - by Suula (Armadale)
Just what I needed for my larger dies and have ordered a refill pack also. You could also put the smaller ones in here, 1 using the top set of ring binders and one on the bottom set, but obviously how much you can get in would limit what you are able to do. The quality seems to be good and robust, but time will tell on that front.
Usually dispatched within 4 to 5 days.
"Brilliant product, holds lots of stamps" - by s.l.harrison
Brilliant product, holds lots of stamps, now all i have to do is take out a shelf to find what i need instead of spending ages looking through all my stamps.
will definitely buy another as i have more stamps to sort.
"These are excellent storage inserts" - by Pendlewitch
These are excellent storage inserts. They take more dies than you realise and are not too heavy when full.
I had a well know large die storage folder, but it became too heavy for me to lift, so I went over to Papermania
and I'm glad I did, I've been able to separate my large and small dies with ease and I can lift them now, no problem.
They are well made and the magnetic shim is very strong.

Like many stampers, I'm using stamp storage based on the system designed My original stamp pockets were from Avery Elle, but now since.

How To Clean & Store Your Rubber Stamps

I would say don't use acetate with any type of stamp- there are known issues with all of them. My best recommendation would be laminated sheets- that's what many people- myself included- use, with no ill effects. Mine- all types of stamps- have been on laminated sheets for pushing 15 years in some cases, and no problem.
You can pick up a basic laminator really cheaply, and packs of laminating pouches are cheap too- either from pound/dollar type stores, or online.
I tend to laminate a sheet of plain cheap cardstock in mine, I used to stamp all the images out, but found that a nuisance if I wanted to reorganise.
You could laminate whatever sheet size you want- I think the standard pouch is A4. If you want A5, just laminate at that size and trim off the excess.
This LINK, to another thread, gives you some other options.
