Lava rune

A combined earth and fire rune.

Lava runes are combination runes that count as two separate runes: one Fire rune and one Earth rune. Thus, any spell requiring one Fire rune, one Earth rune or both will spend only one Lava rune.

They can be created with the Runecrafting skill or purchased with Pizazz points from the Mage Training Arena.

When equipped, the Lava battlestaff and Mystic lava staff will act as an unlimited number of Lava runes.

10 Lava runes and 10 Mist runes are required for the completion of Swan Song. In addition, crafting Lava runes at the Fire altar is a medium task in the Lumbridge & Draynor Diary.

Runecrafting Lava runes

At Runecrafting level 23 or higher, they can be crafted in several ways:

Tiaras will not work in place of talismans while crafting the runes. Creating Lava runes has a 50% success rate or 100% if the player is wearing a binding necklace. The talisman is also consumed in the process unless the player is under the effect of Magic Imbue.

1.0 - Introduction

Runecrafting is a free to play skill. It was released along with the completed version of RuneScape. Since then, a lot of players have taken the arduous task of binding their runes. A few prefer to buy them from magic stores or attain them from monsters. Runecrafting allows players to craft the runes as long as you have the correct level and equipment to craft them - bind the power of the ancient runes with rune essence, which is mined within special locations around RuneScape that only certain magical beings can allow entrance to.

The only requirement for the Runecrafting skill is to complete the Rune Mysteries Quest. This quest begins on the second floor of Lumbridge Castle, by speaking with Duke Horacio.

2.0 - Basics

Runecrafting is a long process; however the idea is quite unique. The first step is mining the rune essence needed in order to craft runes. The only place to get this rune essence is the rune essence mines which are only accessible through the powerful wizards of RuneScape. So to get to the rune essence mines you must talk to one of the following magicians.

  • Sedridor - Basement of the Wizards Tower
  • Aubury - Varrock Rune shop [Closest to bank - F2P]
  • Wizard Cromperty - East Ardougne
  • Wizard Distentor - The Head of the Magic Guild [Closest to bank - Members]
  • Brimstail - The Hollowed Rock in the south-west part of Tree Gnome Stronghold.

After arriving at the Rune Essence, find a mining spot and click "Mine". There are two types of Rune Essence. All free players will get normal essence which can only be used to craft mind, body, air, water, earth and fire runes. Members with 30 mining or above will receive Pure Essence which can be used to create all runes. Note that you will receive the same experience, despite which type of essence you mine. You will automatically fill your inventory with these magical rocks. Once you are done, just enter a nearby portal, and you will be teleported back where you came from.

The next step is turning the rune essence into actual runes. Take the talisman of the rune you wish to make as well as your rune essence with you to the respective Runecrafting altar location and "Use" your talisman with the mysterious ruins. You will instantly be taken into the altar. Click "Craft" on the dolmen in the center of the altar and your rune essence will be turned into runes. To leave, simple use the portal you came in.

Repeating this process will raise your Runecrafting level and produce more runes.

2.1 - Pouches

Along with the update that brought Runecrafters the Abyss came rune essence pouches. For starters, you will have to complete a mini quest for the Mage of Zamorak. This involves taking an orb to certain NPC's who teleport you to the rune essence mines.

The pouches, available in small, medium, large, and giant sizes, are obtained through killing creatures of the Abyss. These include Abyssal leeches (level-41), Abyssal guardians (level-59), and Abyssal walkers (level-81). Dying with your pouches will mean that you have to go to the Abyss and kill the creatures to attain more. Only one of each pouch may be held at any time. Over time the medium, large, and giant pouches will degrade and become damaged; holding less essence. To repair these, take them to the Dark Mage, in the middle of the abyss. If your pouch degrades completely it will disappear. You will have to kill abyssal creatures to obtain another, or get one more free small pouch from the Mage of Zamorak.

3.0 - Levels, Talismans and Altars

3.1 - Level Requirements

This table outlines the requirements for certain types of runes. At certain levels you will be able to make more than one rune for every rune essence. For example, if you were level 11, you would make two air runes per rune essence. These levels are also outlined in this following table. The "x2", "x3" etc indicate the required level to make multiple runes from one essence.

*This is a reachable but untested multiplier level. With three doses of Evil Dave's Orange Spice in a stew, some luck, and level 99 Runecrafting, this can be reached.

3.2 - Combination Runes

Runecrafters have the option to bind two different types of elemental runes into a brand new combination rune. The benefit of this is combination runes only take one inventory slot, meaning extra room for food or equipment. The way the combination runes are used in spell casting, is like so: the greatest amount of runes required to cast a spell will form the amount of combination runes required. For example, Fire Strike requires 3 fire and 2 air runes. Casting it will require 3 smoke runes, as smoke is a combination of air and fire. This is exceptionally helpful for Mage Player Killing, because the combination of the runes leaves space for more food other important items.

To create combination runes you will need to bring the pure essence along with the same number of an elemental rune. You will also need the talisman matching the altar and the talisman of the runes you brought. Example: To create a mud rune you would go to the Earth Altar (May need Earth Talisman), bring a Water Talisman, Water Runes and an equal amount of pure rune essences. You will lose the one of the talismans you bring though.

The success rate of creating combination runes is 50% but this can be increased to 100% by using the necklace of binding. This necklace is an emerald necklace enchanted and has 15 uses.

3.3 - Talismans

Talismans cannot be made. They are all dropped by various monsters, with the exception of the Law and Death Talismans, which are quest rewards. All are tradable, with the exception of the Law Talisman. Talismans marked with (M) are members only.

3.4 - Tiaras

Bound Tiaras are used as a faster and more efficient way to runecraft. Simply wear the tiara, take your essence to the mysterious ruins, and left click them to gain access to the binding temple.

To make a tiara, grab a silver bar and tiara mould (Rimmington or Al-Kharid crafting stores, or for free in the Crafting Guild); make your way to a furnace, and make the tiara. Once you have created a plain tiara, you must take it, along with a talisman to its respective Runecrafting temple, and use either with the altar. (Note: There is usually a large amount of plain tiaras at the general store in Falador.)

There are currently eleven types of tiaras in the game, with blood, and soul to be added at a later date. Cosmic, Chaos, Nature, Law, Death, Blood and Soul are Members' only. When you bind a tiara with the power of a runecrafting altar, you will gain 5x the normal runecrafting experience. This is shown in the table below:

3.5 - Altar Information

4.0 - Tips and Techniques

4.1 - Tips

For free players, there is not much strategy at all. You should simply use the running to the altar and back method. However, for members, there are many great ways to raise Runecrafting quickly. This section will outline the best ones.

Amulet of Glory Charges: The most efficient charging of the amulets is achieved when you have at least four amulets, preferably 10 or more amulets. Use your last teleport for a trip to Al-Kharid, bring along all your amulets, and then catch the glider to White Wolf Mountain. Go underneath the mountain using the Dwarven pass, charge all your amulets at the Heroes' Guild and then teleport back to Edgeville for another round.
*The Glider system works such that you will have to fly the glider back to the Tree Gnome Stronghold stop, before flying to a new destination.

Should want to charge your Amulets of Glory, then the quickest method is to use a Game Necklace and teleport to Burthorpe to walk a small distance to charge all your amulets at the Heroes' Guild

Amulet of Glory, Boots of Lightness and Spotted/Spottier Cape: Always equip the amulet before you run to an altar. You can teleport out of the altar with the glory straight from your equipment tab.
Remember to equip boot of lightness if possible; it makes a world of difference, reducing your weight by 4.875kg. Spotted capes also reduce your weight by 3kg and spottier capes reduce your weight by 5kg. Lastly, when using your amulet of glory for a teleport to a bank, use the Edgeville bank instead of Al-Kharid.

4.2 - Techniques

The table below ranks the top three best Runecrafting methods for both members and free players.

RankFree PlayersMembers

The above rankings are not based on Abyss times. To find out which technique you should use, refer to the next section.

Using The Abyss method proves much more effective in crafting the runes below than walking to and from the altar, however, if you are scared of Player Killers camping out around the entrance to the abyss, then use the below techniques.

Air Altar: As a beginner, air runes are the first runes you will be able to craft. They are one of the easiest runes to make, as the altar is in plain view, and near-enough to the Falador east bank. Once you can make more than a few airs per essence, it will be wise to walk from Falador, to the altar, and then teleport back to save time.

Mind Altar: Instead of starting from Falador, begin from Edgeville. Head in to the wilderness, then walk/run west, and eventually south towards the altar. Return quickly with Amulet of Glory, and recharge when needed.

Water Altar: For beginners who have no access to the abyss, Runecrafting water runes can be extremely boring. However, the fastest way to craft them is to walk to and from Draynor Village Bank. If you have a Glory Amulet, take it with you and teleport to Draynor Village to reduce the time taken.

Earth Altar: Earth is by far the best free-to-play runes to craft, largely because the altar is the closest to a bank in relation to walking distance. Free players should definitely consider using earths to "power-craft" their levels up. A helpful hint is to teleport to Varrock to save time.

Fire Altar: For lower level members, Runecrafting Fire Runes is the fastest method of gaining experience, if you have a plentiful supply of emeralds, making rings of dueling will be of great assistance. Begin by equipping one ring; wearing a fire tiara, 28 rune essence, and teleport into the duel arena. Make your way to the altar, and then bind your essence. Teleport to the castle wars arena, and use its bank. Teleport to the duel arena, and repeat the cycle again. Each ring gives four trips (2 uses per trip).

Body Altar: This method requires using an amulet of glory to teleport back to Edgeville bank, then running back to the body altar. You can of course, do this without an amulet of glory, but it would be a bit slower. From Edgeville, run south-west (just west of Barbarian Villages' Pub), and enter the altar. Craft your runes, and use your amulet of glory to teleport back to Edgeville. Recharge when necessary.

Cosmic Altar: The cosmic altar is located in Zanaris (The Lost City), which is only accessible upon completion of the Lost City Quest. The mysterious ruins are located just east, then south of the flour mill. To get to the altar is a pretty long run, but there are two shortcuts. Both are narrow walkways: the first requires level 66 agility; the second requires level 46 agility. If you are low on health, or wouldn't like to risk loosing health, then use the second walkway. Both shortcuts can be failed, and will deal from 4-8 damage. Keep in mind you can also craft the runes without agility, it just takes longer. Once you have accessed the inside of the altar, it is right down the path.

Chaos Altar: Time wasted on navigating through maze makes Chaos Runecrafting ineffective and unprofitable. To save time, when in the Chaos Temple areas, you can simply make use of the mini-map to click the ladder in view. This saves time navigating the temple. Having around ten amulets of glorys will reduce the time it takes to craft, as you can teleport back to Edgeville bank safely. Using the Abyss to craft these runes is the best way, but some can't or don't want to.

Nature Altar: There are five methods to crafting nature runes. The first method involves selling pure essence notes and re-buying your pure essence back using the Tai Bwo Wannai Village general store. Withdraw all of your Pure Rune Essence in notes, take about 50k gp with you and bring your Nature Talisman. With three spots taken up, 25 spaces left, head to the village shop. Sell 25 Rune Essence notes to the shop, then buy them straight back. Go to the Nature Altar, and then scoot back to the shop. Sell 24 Pure Rune Essence notes, go to the Nature Altar, and scoot back. Repeat this process to your hearts content.
The second method requires The Grand Tree quest to be completed. Take the glider to the Shilo Village Region of Karamja. Walk north-west, cross the log bridge, and the walk south-west and you will hit the altar. Turn around and head back the way you came to get back to Al-Kharid, and withdraw another batch of essence. This method is sub-par with the shop method for time (formerly took less time, but the location of the glider was moved), but has the advantage of being able to craft 27 runes at once (no space taken up by money, notes, and crafted natures). This method can be further enhanced by using the Amulet of Glory, where you teleport to Al-Kharid the moment you have crafted your runes.
The third method requires you to have started the A Fairy Tale Part II quest to access the fairy rings. A fairy ring is located just west of the altar and its coordinates are CKR. You just need to wield a dramen/lunar staff, a nature tiara and then have your inventory filled with pure essence and pouches if you can use them.
The fourth method is not the fastest but still used by many players. It involves you running between the Nature Altar and the Shilo Village bank.
The fifth method requires total completion of the Karamja Achievement Diary. Clap your Karamja gloves to be teleported to the Shilo Gem Rocks. Run to the bank, get essences and run to the altar. Repeat.

Law Altar: There are two different ways you can craft law runes effectively. First of all, remember that you may not bring anything resembling a weapon or piece of armour with you to Entrana. With that said, use Draynor Village as your banking hub, and bring your law talisman, 27 pure essence, and a charged Amulet of Glory, which should be worn at all times. Go to Port Sarim and hop the boat to Entrana. The trip is free, and has a quick "Take-boat" option on the monks. Head east, then straight north until you hit the altar. Craft your runes and teleport back to Draynor Village. An alternative to using Draynor bank, is to take the boat from Port Sarim to the Void Knight Outpost, bank there, and then take the boat back to Port Sarim, then to Entrana. If you wish to get laws made for free, bring your 27 ess as normal and trade for 27 laws and 27 noted pure essence. Bank and repeat for free fast laws on world 66.

The second way, and best way to gain Runecrafting experience is world 66 and 99 at the law altar. There are many people who want law runes crafted. This can get you up to 20-30k XP an hour! However, this is a costly method and only recommended if you are certain you will get 91 runecrafting.

Alternatively when you have done the Enlightened Journey quest and unlocked the Castle Wars service: Bring a ring of dueling, law tiara, and pre-cut normal log, and start at Castle Wars bank. Go to the balloon outside the Castle Wars building, and take a ride to Entrana. Proceed to law altar, craft runes, and use the dueling ring to teleport back to Castle Wars. This takes about the same speed as abyssal crafting, and is quite significantly less dangerous.

Death Altar: Basically, the only way to craft death runes, is by using the Abyss. Walking to the altar not only wastes time, but can become quite confusing.

Rune Essence Mining: Choose a spot near the portal to mine, as it does save a little time. After getting a full load, click directly on the portal, and you will be taken outside. The best place to mine Essence is the Magic Guild as it is basically a straight run from there to the bank (66+ Magic required, or 63 with a Wizards Mind Bomb); members only).

4.3 - Maximizing Time and Profit for non-members

The best way to make a profit through runecrafting in non-members is to craft airs. Other types of runes are much harder to sell for non-members. If you are looking to level fast and make a profit, you will want to use World 16 Air Company. I will explain the process later on, but for now just know that you need a runecrafting level of 55 or more to make a profit. This takes in account buying mass amounts of rune essences for 40 gp each and other expenses using this method. As with most guides, if you buy the essences for less or sell the airs for more, you will be making a profit earlier. As your level increases, you will be able to sell the airs for less and still make a profit. To start runecrafting in World 16, I would suggest you have at least 2,000 noted essences and 160,000 gp.

Fast Free Cash / World 16 Air Company

World 16 Air Company is the biggest aircraft company in all of RuneScape. For non-members, this is the fastest consistent runecrafting experience in the game. There are two types of jobs for this company, runners and crafters. Since you want runecrafting experience, you will be a crafter. The crafters job is to take the unnoted essences from the runners. In return, the crafter should give the runner 25 noted essences and money. Usually crafters give back 2,000 to 2,200 gp per load to the runner. Although this may seem like a lot of money to waste on the exchange of rune essences, it gives the runner a supplement for all the time he or she is taking to help the crafter. Once you have your entire rune essence supply crafted, use the forums to sell the airs. The amount of airs you will have varies with your runecrafting level.

The table outlines the amount of profit or debt you will incur for each level when you trade the amount of money on the left. Notice, this table is only for buying essences at 40 gp. Each value is the value for one essence.

5.0 - The Abyss

The Abyss (along with its guardian, The Mage of Zamorak) has made the runecrafting skill easier and quicker to train. To enter the abyss, you must first do a task for him. When you complete his task, he will allow you access to the abyss. Once inside, you will be confronted by Abyssal creatures that are fairly powerful. Despite the fact that the abyss is not a wilderness zone, you will be instantly skulled. You can prevent being skulled by wearing an Abyssal bracelet (enchanted diamond bracelet). Your prayer will also be drained to 0. You can regain your prayer points in the abyss by drinking prayer potions or super stat restore potions. If you have a mounted glory in your house, you can teleport with either runes or a teletab from the altar to your house and teleport back to Edgeville. This will prevent you losing a glory amulet while using Abyss.

From Edgeville bank, to the abyss, and back again, takes approximately 70-85 seconds running (however, the times vary depending on where you spawn inside the abyss). For walking, it can take anywhere from 105, to 125 seconds to make a round trip. This means that the crafting of Body, Mind, Chaos, Nature and Law runes is faster, thanks to the abyss.

While this is a more innovative and efficient way to craft some types of runes, for others, it is not as worth while. This is largely due to the Player Killers who often guard the entrance to the abyss.

Nevertheless, the abyss ultimately increases the ease of the Runecrafting skill. For more detailed information, consult our guide to The Abyss and on how to complete the Abyss mini-quest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Can Non-Members craft Chaos, Cosmic, Nature, Death, and Law runes?

A:No. Non-Members can only craft up to Body Runes. Although you can access the outside of the Chaos Altar, the Chaos talisman and tiara is a members' object. Note that only pure essence can craft the members' only runes.

Q: Do you get more experience when you are able to craft more than one rune from one essence?

A: No. Experience is calculated per essence crafted, not per rune made.

Q: Is it possible to craft Soul and Blood Runes?

A: No.

Q: Didn't the Glider at Karamja Island crash? How can it be used for nature rune Crafting?

A: That is the glider first used when you start the quest. The crash site is located at the Jogre spawn. However, the location you glide to would be further south.

Q: Can Free Players buy and use Pure Essence?

A: Yes they can. Pure essence can be used by both members and free players, however only members can mine it.

Q: How many glory amulets should I have whilst crafting via the Abyss?

A: The more you have, the better. It takes approximately 110 seconds to make a successful trip through the Abyss. You can last for about an hour in the Abyss with 10 glory amulets before having to recharge them. Having 10 plus amulets will be most effective.

Q: Why does everyone keep talking about 91 runecrafting? What is so special about it?

A: At 91 runecrafting you gain the ability to craft double nature runes per essence. This method makes people over a million gp per hour, and is what every runecrafter aspires to.

OSRS Runecrafting Guide - All About Runecrafting skill

I am glad to see you reading our OSRS Runecrafting Guide. Runecrafting is a f2p (free to play) skill in RuneScape which allows players to craft various runes which later can be used to cast spells. It is among one of the more disliked skills by the community since is revolves mostly around running from Runecrafting altars to the bank and vice versa. In order to create runes, players need to mine or buy essence stones which later can be blessed at special elemental altars to mark them with its power.  As this is a creation skill that lets you do something from almost nothing you will be able to earn quite a lot of coins on your Runecrafting runs at higher levels. In this 1 99 OSRS Runecrafting guide, you will find everything you need to know about Runecrafting as well as best possible ways of achieving level 99.

Check also our full OSRS Skills Guide >>>

Useful items

Rune essence/Pure essence

These rocks are necessary to craft runes from them. They can be mined after you complete the Rune Mysteries quest or bought at the Grand Exchange. Rune Essence or Pure Essence taken to certain altars while having corresponding Talisman or Tiara of this element in inventory can change them into Runes.

Graceful outfit

This is essential for all of the RuneCrafters since this skill revolves mainly around running from place to place and Graceful equipment boosts your energy by quite a lot making you more lightweight. If you are aiming to reach higher RuneCrafting levels more efficiently this weight reducing set will grant you better gold and experience rates since you will be able to run longer and recharge energy faster when you wear it. The set consists of six pieces : hood, gloves, boots, cape, legs and armor. In our runecrafting guide, you will find methods that require 73 Agility (Blood Runes at 77+ RC) so you might have to train that first. By the time you get to 73 Agility you should already have full Graceful.

Stamina potions

Another nice thing that can help your efficiency is to drink dose of stamina potions. By doing this you gain great buff to stamina that lasts around two minutes. As said before RuneCrafting is mainly running so having those at all times will help a lot. The c of potions is not that expensive and extra energy from your inventories is definitely worth it. As Runecrafting is mostly trained by running, your stamina wearing rate will be high. You should always be buying stamina potions before training RC.

Runecrafting Pouches

These are used to store runes and act as additional inventory slots o you can carry more. These pouches can be acquired by killing Abyssal Monsters. To get there you need to finish very simple mini quest ‘Enter the Abyss’. Drops are very often and NPC which teleports to Abyss is very close to Edgeville so you don’t really have to worry about PK’s. Just don’t bring anything too valuable. There are four kinds of pouches : Small rune Pouch unlocked at level 1 carries 3 Essences, Medium Pouch from level 25 Runecrafting carries 6, Large Pouch carries 9 at level 50 and Giant Pouch carries 12 at level 75 Runecrafting.

Talismans and Tiaras

In order to craft runes at various altars, you will need special items connected to them. For example, at the Air Altar you need Air Talisman  or Air Tiara for crafting Air Runes and on Fire Altar - Fire Talisman or Fire Tiara.

Best way to reach 99

Levels 1-9 or 1-23

At the beginning of your RuneCrafting leveling journey, you need to complete Rune Mysteries quest which is required in order to start crafting runes. Although this quest does not reward RC experience you can finish Enter The Abyss miniquest which will take you from level 1 to 9. This way you skip painful early process of doing air, water and mind runes. Additionally, if you have 46 Magic, 5 Construction and The Grand Tree completed you can do The Eyes of Glouphrie quest which will take you all the way to level 23 (if Enter the Abyss is completed as well). If you don't want to do quests you are going to craft Air Runes.

Levels 9-14

Earth Runes

If you haven’t completed The Eyes of Glouphrie quest at level 9 you will be crafting Earth Runes which are fastest at this level. Earth Altar can be found north-east of Varrock, just before the Lumberyard. To get to level 14 you will need to make around 8 trips. If you want to make those faster you can use Varrock teleports and Lumberyard teleports although it will cost you a little bit more.

Levels 14-23

Fire Runes

After you reach level 14, you want to take your rune/pure essences and run to the Fire Altar which is located just north of the Duel Arena. Because of that, you want to buy Ring of Duelling which gives you quick teleport to the Duel Arena. After you run from this place to the Altar and make your runes you can teleport to Castle Wars with the same ring. In the lobby room, you will find a chest where you can bank what you made and take clean essences for your next trip. Craft Fire Runes for around 20 trips and you will hit level 23.

Levels 23+

Lava Runes

At level 23 you unlock the ability to train Runecrafting with combination runes. Those can be made at the same altar as Fire runes so just above Duel Arena (teleport with Rings of Duelling). To craft, those plays need Earth Talisman, Fire Tiara, Earth Runes, Pure Essences, and Binding Necklace. In addition to making trips more efficient players can use Magic Imbue spell (82 Magic + Lunar Diplomacy) which will allow crafting Lava runes without a talisman. It is also worth noting that the two biggest Rune Pouches should be taken as the time it takes to empty them is not worth it for lesser ones.

To start crafting those use Ring of Duelling and teleport to Castle Wars. Go to the chest nearby and withdraw Pure Essence. Fill up both of your Rune pouches and open bank again to withdraw more Pure Essences to fill free slots in the inventory. Teleport to the Duel Arena and run north to the altar. If you can - cast your magic to imbue spell. Use earth rune on the altar to craft Lava runes. Empty your pouches. Use Earth rune on the altar again. Teleport back to the Duel arena. You can repeat this process for as long as you like - this method is viable between 23 99 since it gives very good experience in RC at all levels.

Levels 23+

Ourania Altar (ZMI Altar)

Zamorak Magical Institute Altar can be used by players from all levels to train their RuneCrafting skill making a profit in both experience and gold. Experience rates will vary as they scale with level making this method decent at all times. While training at Ourania Altar players can craft various runes (chosen at random) which later can be sold. To maximize profit from this method medium Ardougne diary should be completed. This gives a bonus of additional runes crafted (which will not grand XP but increase gold made). Although there are no real requirements to craft there, players with 71 Magic will have a huge advantage as they can use ZMI teleport from Lunar Spellbook teleporting them right at the entrance. At the altar you can find banking NPC which will ask for payment in 20 runes of your choice. There are two paths to the altar - one long and safe and second - short  but with monsters. If you want to use this method it is highly recommended to do this on world 327 since there are many people doing it there. Those people will shield you from attacks of the monsters making this trip way easier.

Levels 77-90

Blood Runes

After all this time spent at lower level methods finally you can start doing one which is not that click intensive and gives good profit in both gold and experience. Zeah RuneCrafting is one of the best ways of achieving max in this skill. To start you will need to get 100% Favor in Arceuus House. In addition level 73 Agility is almost necessary since it will make all of your trips way faster. Take a chisel and run to the Essence Mine located north-east of the Arceuus House. Mine essence blocks until you have a full inventory and run to the Dark Altar where you can turn your blocks into Dark Essence Blocks. Go back to the mine and chisel all of your blocks into the fragments while you run there. When you have full inventory head back to Dark Altar and bless stones that you have again. Now you can head to the Blood Altar to make your runes. After that chisel rest of the blocks from your inventory and make more of the Blood Runes. Repeat this process for as long as you want to.

Levels 90-99

Soul Runes

This is exactly the same this as with Blood Runes and the only different part is that you bless your runes at the Soul Altar to the east instead of blood to the west and that you need Runecrafting level of 90. These runes aren’t as profitable as Blood Runes but give much more experience making them best xp farm in bracket of level 91 99.

Additional RuneCrafting methods

Levels 27+ (59+ recommended)

Cosmic Runes

From level 27 players can start crafting Cosmic Runes. This is a very good money making method for players who want to focus on getting gold while making some RuneCrafting experience at the same time. Although it can give you decent gold from beginning it will start to shine after level 59 when you can get double Cosmic Runes during crafting. As mentioned before experience rates are quite low with 10-20k per hour but gold that you can get from those runes makes it all worth it. You should be able to make around 2500 runes per hour at 59 RuneCrafting which should be yield around 450k gold.

Cosmic Altar is located in Zanaris unlocked via Lost City quest completion . There is Agility shortcut at levels 44 and 66 which can make your trips much easier but if you don’t have levels in that you can use Fairy Rings to get around this place in a decent time.

Levels 40+

Astral Runes

This is a very similar method to crafting Cosmic Runes. If you completed Lunar Diplomacy quest you can start crafting Astral Runes at Altar south-east of the village on Lunar Isle. Begin by taking Runecrafting pouches, Earth staff, Law runes and essences. While running to Altar watch out for 111 Combat level Suqahs which can hit you pretty hard if you don’t pray for melee. After you are done making runes use Moonclan teleport and get to the bank to store what you made. This method will give you around 800k gold and 30k exp an hour after level 82 when you can craft double Astral Runes.

Levels 44+

Nature Runes

Another profitable method of making runes is done through Abyss. If you have completed on level 1 Enter The Abyss miniquest you can now make use of it and craft Nature Runes and if not you will have to do that to use this method. Begin by equipping amulet of glory, taking your Rune pouches and essences. Go to the wilderness just north of Edgeville where you can find Mage of Zamorak by talking to this Dark Mage you can teleport to Abyss.  Inside you will be starting skulled so if you die you will lose everything. Use one of many tunnels to get from the outer ring to the inner ring. You will need to do something to unblock obstacles like mining rocks (which requires mining level), or cutting woods which block the way so take with you a cheap pickaxe or an axe. After you are done with that go into the Nature Altar portal and make runes at the altar. Use Amulets of Glory to teleport back to Edgeville bank and repeat the process. Keep in mind that most of this process is done at Wilderness so you might be attacked by other players. It is worth risking your Graceful Outfit since it can be easily retrieved but doesn’t take anything more valuable with you. Although crafting Nature runes requires only 44 Runecrafting it is most profitable from 91 when you can create double Nature Runes. At this level, you can expect around 20k exp and 800k gold every hour.

Levels 54+

Law and Death Runes

Later on you can choose Law or Death Altar craft those at the Abyss. These Runes can be crafted similarly to Nature ones although usually they aren’t as profitable.

Levels 95+

Wrath Runes

You will need to complete Dragon Slayer 2 to access Myths Guild allowing you to make Wrath Runes. You can also get Mythical cape which is not required but will let you teleport yourself very close to the Altar. If you have crafting cape you can also take it with you for easy bank access and if not just take Games Necklace and teleport to Castle Wars when you need to bank. Keep in mind that you might get attacked by Dragons along the way so Anti-Dragon shield is a must. Although Wrath runes won’t give you double drop at any level they are still much more profitable than other RuneCrafting methods. You can make around 1,5~2mil gold an hour while also getting around 30k experience. This is definitely one of the best skilling goldmakers in the game so if you are in need of profit this one is for you.

Runecrafting Guide OSRS

Now, with no doubt, the most difficult skill to train is Runecrafting OSRS. Especially if you want to get that 99. It takes time, it takes dedication, it takes a lot of OSRS gold – the more efficient you want to be, the more gold you’re going to need. Lucky for you, here you can buy as much cheap OSRS gold as you need!

If you’re one of the tough players and decided to get on with the adventure that is getting 99 Runecrafting, you’ve come to the right place because you’re going to need this highly efficient Runescrafting guide OSRS to get to your final goal ASAP. It might be good to know that while training Runecrafting is time-consuming and difficult, it has some really sweet benefits to it – for example, it’s highly profitable. It’s also very beneficial for players who use a lot of Magic – plus, let’s face the truth, if anything shows dedication and proficiency in OSRS, it’s getting a 99 on Runecrafting!

First things first, if you’re going to follow our OSRS Runecrafting guide, you’re going to need to maximise your xp and profit by using OSRS Runecrafting pouches.

OSRS Runecrafting pouches

Pouches are basically small bags that can hold different amounts of rune essence or pure essence. They are very important for anyone who wants to train Runecrafting efficiently, because they allow you to craft more runes and take larger loads when you’re runecrafting or mining pure essence.

After you complete the Enter the Abyss quest, OSRS Runecrafting pouches are dropped by monsters in the Abyss and the Abyssal Area. However, they decay with use and have to be repaired – you can do that in the Abyss by talking to the Dark Mage in the inner ring or via  NPC Contact by using the Lunar spellbook to contact the Dark Mage. The small pouch doesn’t decay but it doesn’t carry much rune/pure essence. If you don’t repair your pouches, they eventually vanish and you’re going to have to find new ones.

There are four available OSRS Runecrafting pouches sizes:

• small pouch (3 additional essence, can used at level 1 Runecrafting)

• medium pouch (6 additional essence, can be used at level 25 Runecrafting)

• large pouch (9 additional essence, can be used at level 50 Runecrafting)

• giant pouch (12 additional essence, can be used at level 75 Runecrafting)

OSRS Runecrafting pouches tip: If you haven’t enabled tha function yet, go to the far right tab in your options, the wrench icon, and click the Shift key icon which must turn from grey to red and read “shift click to drop items”. Now when you hold the Shift key when you click on the full pouch this will empty it and put the essence in your inventory, so you don’t have to right-click it and select “empty”.

How to ease the grind

Here are a few tips that make OSRS Runecrafting an easier skill to train:

• You’re going to have to run. A lot. So the higher your Agility level is, the better for you. If you’re aiming for max, it’s best to get a 99 on Agility first – or at least a fairly high level.

• Combat skills are a great idea too because most of the decent methods for training OSRS Runecrafting have hostile mobs – f.e. the abyss, so high Defence and Hitpoints level will definitely benefit you. It also helps in getting the OSRS Runecrafting pouches you need!

• As for the gear, just put on something weight reducing so your run energy drains slower.

• Clearly, you need pure/rune essence for the higher-level runes so either mine plenty before you start training Runecrafting or stack up on cheap OSRS gold and buy some off the Grand Exchange.

• You will need stamina pots in order to make runs as fast as possible.

• Now about the quests: in order to start training, you have to complete the Rune Mysteries quest. If you enter the Enter the Abyss miniquest right after talking to Wizard Sedridor about the Rune Mysteries, you get a 1,000 Runecrafting XP reward that moves you directly to level 9 Runecrafting. Another way to skip levels via quest is by completing The Eyes of Glouphrie which grants you 6,000 xp and gets you right to level 23. You need to have 46 Magic, 5 Construction and to complete the Grand Tree quest in order to start it though. The completing of the quest takes about an hour.

1-99 OSRS Runecrafting guide

• Air runes (level 1-9)

In case you don’t want to do the quests and skip the first few levels, the only way to start training Runecrafting is by crafting air runes. This way you gain 5 xp for eached used pure/rune essence which means a total of 140 xp for an inventory of 28. You can find the air altar just south of Falador and there is a bank near by. In order to reach level 9 by crafting air runes, you need 194 pure essence and 7 inventory fill ups.

• Earth runes (level 9-14)

At level 9, it’s best to move on to the earth altar just northeast of Varrock. You get 6.5 xp per pure/rune essence and the bank is not far away, so the xp gain is fast. An alternative is to carry a pickaxe and teleport through Aubury to the pure essence mine, then leave one space empty where the earth runes can stack and go back and forth between the mine for rune essence and the earth altar. Another option is to teleport right to the earth altar by using the Lumberyard teleport scroll and using ring of dueling to go to Castle wars for the bank. You need about 6 inventories of pure essence to reach level 14 and move on to fire runes.

• Fire runes (level 14-23)

Crafting fire runes grant 7 xp per rune/pure essence. The fire altar is west of the Duel Arena and you can use a ring of dueling to teleport to Castle wars and withdraw essence from the bank there, then teleport with the ring right back. You need 20 inventories of 30 essence to reach your goal.

• Lava runes (level 23-44(99?))

Lava runes are known to be the fastest way to train Runecrafting OSRS. You can gain up to 72,000 xp/h with perfect clicks before you reach 99 Runecrafting – after that, you can gain up to 79,000 xp/h. It’s very click intensive though, so usually if you’re not completely focused, it’s more likely that your rate will be closer to 65,000-70,000 xp/h.

To make optimal xp/h, you need level 82 Magic and to complete Lunar Diplomacy, so you can cast Magic Imbue – this negates the need for a talisman in combination runecrafting. Use ring of dueling and binding necklase so you can teleport near the fire altar and make sure the lava runes are always crafted. Use the largest rune pouches that you have available because this save time. Also stamina pots are your best friends.

The best equipment for this method includes a fire tiara, the best available weight-reducing gear, mist battlestaff, tome of fire, and of course a rune pouch with law, cosmic and astral in order to repair your pouches with NPC Contact spell. With the mist battlestaff you can have unlimited water and air runes, while the tome of fire offers as many fire runes as you want.

Abyss Runecrafting OSRS

Now if you don’t care so much for the ratio between spent time and gained profit and you don’t mind taking it slow as long as you get some decent amount of OSRS gold out of it, you may try Abyss Runecrafting. This is known to be the slowest but usually most profitable way to train Runecrafting to max level.

First, you need to complete the Enter the Abyss miniquest. It’s best to maximise your Defence against the creatures there but still weigh 0 kg and to have high Agility and Mining level. If you’re playing optimally, you might make 50 runs/h through the Abyss.

The best gear to wear is amulet of glory, Spottier cape, Black pickaxe, ring of dueling, boots of lightness and the graceful legs. You might want to add something for extra Defence but if you have 60+ Defence, there’s no need to worry about it and you can just wear the graceful outfit. Another alternative is to bring jugs of wine with you but drink them while filling your OSRS Runecrafting pouches.

• Single nature runes (level 44-54)

Nature runes grant you 9 xp/ess which is not as fast as crafting Lava runes but it’s more profitable. So if you don’t care so much about how much money you spend, it’s best to keep up with the Lava runes. However, if you want to make a profit and gain xp, nature runes can be quickly sold for a decent amount of money. The nature altar is in Karamja and unless you have someone running to bring you pure essence right outside the altar, you won’t gain xp fast.

• Law runes (level 54-59)

Law runes grant you 9.5 xp/ess so it’s a bit more efficient than crafting nature runes. You can use the abyss system and teleport to Edgeville via amulet of glory, or use the balloon transport system from Castle wars to Entrana. After you craft the runes, teleport back to Castle wars with the ring of dueling. The law altar is on Entrana so make sure you don’t have anything equipped when you use the altar, else you won’t be allowed through the portal. You can use a bronze pickaxe and then drop it before you enter, then pick it back up. If you’re using balloon transport, click straight north when you arrive from Entrana because that way the pathfinder will generate a path to run around the island. It can be canceled after you cross the bridge to get to the law altar.

Double cosmis runes (level 59-82)

You can craft two cosmic runes for one pure essence which gives you a decent profit and xp/h rate. You can use the quest point cape to teleport to a fairy ring and get fast to the altar. It takes a little less than a minute like this if you’re using an amulet of glory to bank at Edgeville. If you have 66 Agility, you can increase your profit by using the best shortcut.

• Double astral runes (level 82-91)

You can craft two astral runes per one pure essence. You should use all 4 OSRS Runecrafting pouches and be on the Lunar spellbook. The best way to go about it is by using Tele Group Moonclan and running south, then you click over the river and the pathfinder will find your way to the bridge. From there you run east to the altar to craft the runes and bank at Castle wars by using a ring of dueling.

It’s best to use a dust battlestaff with law, cosmic and astral runes to negate the need for taking out runes for the Tele Group Moonclan/NPC Contact spells. You might wear also an amulet of fury and some tank shield like the dragonfire shield because the Suqah can hit players who have no armour on. If instead of ring of dueling, you’re using a Crafting cape for the banking, you can wear a regen bracelet with it to outheal the Suqah damage.

• Double nature runes (level 91-95/99)

Now here come some real money. If you craft two nature runes per one pure essence, you will make from level 91 to 99 1,584,800 nature runes which can be sold for a great amount of GP. Get some good defensive gear with weight reducing bonuses and remember to use OSRS Runecrafting pouches because every extra rune gives you OSRS gold. You also need a pickaxe for mining through the rocks in the Abyss and it’s best if you have a higher Mining level, as well as Agility in order to move through the obstacles faster.

• Double law runes (level 95-99)

Another option is to start crafting two law runes per pure essence at level 95, because this gives 513 per run as compared to double nature runes which give 486 xp/run. However, you must complete Troll Stronghold to do this.

So, this is pretty much all there is to the 1-99 Runecrafting guide OSRS! It’s not one of the easiest skills to train because it takes a lot of time and is very click-intensive, but it pays off and provides great profit. If you follow our Runecrafting guide OSRS, you will get to level 99 as fast and efficient as possible!

OSRS Runecrafting Guide

From Scratch to Level 99

Check out our article on the Best Money making skills in OSRS to find guides on the other most profitable skills in Runescape Old School

Leveling up Runecrafting to 99 is quite challenging (or tedious, boring, and unnecessarily time-consuming, depending on who you ask). Despite this troublesome leveling process, Runecrafting is, no doubt, worth the effort, as it is easily one of the best moneymaking Skills in the OSRS. This great Gold making potential comes from the ability to craft double the amount of Runes from a single essence, which is unlocked for different Runes at certain Level Thresholds. This ability opens up an alternative leveling route - the even slower, but very profitable one (this alternative approach will be described in more detail down below).

This Guide aims to make your Runecrafting Leveling experience as painless, as fast, and as efficient as possible. It will go over other Skills that are required and/or recommended and point you towards the items that can be used to ease out the leveling process, at least by a little bit. Buckle up and get ready for some grind.

Before You Start

There are some preparations to be made before you begin to level up Runecrafting. Some of these preparation steps are mandatory, while others are optional but recommended. These steps take a form of Quests, Skills, and Items, and we have described all of them down below.

These mostly reward you with some much-needed early Runecrafting Experience or give you access to Runecrafting-related zones, and one of them is necessary to simply unlock the Skill. Below-mentioned, Optional Quests with high requirements can be used as a leap-away from leveling tediousness for experienced Players who want to get some Runecrafting exp in an alternative way (those with lower requirements can be used for the same thing by everyone, of course).

  • Rune Mysteries (Mandatory, Requirements: None. Rewards: Ability to Craft Runes, Ability to mine Rune Essence). This quest opens up the Runecrafting Skill for you, which means that this is the starting line for all aspiring Runecrafters.
  • Enter the Abyss miniquest (Recommended/Mandatory, Skill Requirements: Rune Mysteries Quest completed. Reward: 1000 Runecrafting Experience, Access to the Abyss, a Small Pouch). Rewards from this quest are too essential to pass up. Access to the Abyss allows you to craft Runes there, and the Small Pouch increases your Rune Essence/Pure Essence capacity, which in turn improves your leveling efficiency.
  • The Ascent of Arceuus (Optional/Recommended, Skill Requirements: 12 Hunter. Reward: 500 Runecrafting Experience). This allows you to gain that few initial Runecrafting Levels with ease.
  • What Lies Below (Optional, Skill Requirements: 35 Runecrafting, 42 Mining or Access to the Abyss. Reward: 8000 Runecrafting Experience).
  • Lunar Diplomacy (Optional, Skill Requirements: 55 Woodcutting, 60 Mining, 65 Magic, 49 Firemaking, 40 Defence, 61 Crafting. Reward: 5000 Runecrafting Experience).
  • The Eyes of Glouphrie (Optional/Recommended, Skill Requirements: 45 Woodcutting, 50 Firemaking, 46 Magic, 5 Construction. Reward: 6000 Runecrafting Experience). This quest is a great place to start Runecrafting Leveling if you meet the requirements.
  • The Slug Menace (Optional, Skill Requirements: 30 Runecrafting, 30 Thieving, 30 Slayer, 30 Crafting. Reward: 3500 Runecrafting Experience).
  • Devious Minds (Optional, Skill Requirements: 50 Runecrafting, 65 Smithing, 50 Fletching. Reward: 5000 Runecrafting Experience).
Items and Equipment

If there are any OSRS Skilling rules, this is certainly one of them: If there is an item or a piece of equipment that can make your grind easier, you should use it. Below, we present you a list of items that will make your Runecrafting journey a little easier.

  • Stamina Potions - The bare minimum. There will be a lot of running around, so your character will get tired which will force you to slow down. These potions will make relocating much faster, by allowing you to run almost constantly. Time is very precious and Stamina Potions will allow you to save a lot of it with just a small Gold Expense. Don't forget to use these when moving between Bank and Altars.
  • Essence Pouches - Load yourself up to the brim. These Pouches allow you to carry more Rune Essences and Pure Essences. They are necessary for efficient leveling, as they minimize the time you spend running back and forth, and maximize the time you spend actually Leveling up your Runecrafting Skill. One Small Pouch is a reward from the Enter The Abyss Quest. To acquire more Pouches you will have to Farm them by killing Abyssal Creatures. They come in 4 sizes (capacities) with different Runecrafting Requirements (Small - 1 Runecrafting, 3 Capacity, Medium - 25 Runecrafting, 6 Capacity, Large - 50 Runecrafting, 9 Capacity, and Giant - 75 Runecrafting, 12 Capacity) and all sizes, except Small, decay after the certain amount of uses which lowers their capacity (you can repair your pouches at the Dark Mage in the center of the Abyss, if you have the Lunar Spellbook, you can repair them remotely by using the NPC Contact Spell to talk to the Dark Mage from afar).
  • Graceful Outfit - Be Light as a Feather. This set of Weight-Reducing Gear will allow you to run for longer, by reducing your Weight and providing you with a 30% boost to Run Energy Regeneration. The whole set provides a weight reduction of 25 kilograms. It can be bought in Parts from NPC Grace. Acquiring it will require ~55 Agility (needed to collect Marks of Grace from Rooftop Agility Courses). The whole Set costs 260 Marks, and you should start by buying Cape, Boots, Gloves, and Legs, as those parts provide you with the best Cost/Weight-Reduction ratio. Getting this can be quite of a hassle on its own, but it is worth it.
  • Lunar Spellbook - Better than a Cellphone. This one is very optional, but can save you a lot of time, especially if you are not crafting runes in the Abyss. As mentioned previously, it allows you to remotely repair your Pouches, which is convenient, to say the least.
  • Various Tiaras - The right of Passage. Tiaras are needed for gaining access to Altars (Air Tiara for Air Altar, etc.) unless you plan to use Abyss for all Crafts. Alternatively, you can use Talismans.

These Skills can save you a lot of time by allowing you to use various shortcuts and/or conveniences. Time is of the essence (pun intended), and so, these come very handy when leveling up Runecrafting, but you shouldn't level them up especially with the Runecrafting training in mind, as it will take more time than just taking a long way instead of a Skill Shortcut.

  • 82 Magic - The Lunar Diplomat. This will be needed for the Lava Runes Step unless you want to use earth talismans instead.
  • Mining - Clear the passage. Mining Skill of at least 21 (70+ Recommended) is required to use the Mining Shortcut in The Abyss
  • 66 Agility - Shorten the way. This skill is required for shortcuts that can be used when crafting Cosmic Runes.

The Training

For the most part, leveling up Runecrafting is straightforward, but there are some alternative methods available here and there, so you should pick the ones that suit you (and your wallet) the best.

Skill Levels 1-9 ⇒ Crafting Air Runes
  • This step requires you to have the Air Tiara and a total of 194 Essences.
  • Air Runes Grant 5 Runecrafting Experience per Rune.
  • The Air Altar is situated south of Falador (the Bank is close by).
  • Sell Created Runes to get some of your Gold investment back, or keep them for later use. Using Pure Essences is more cost-effective (Loses/Profits from this step will be rather marginal, so do not expect to make or lose too much Gold).

Note: These first Runecrafting Leveling steps can be skipped by completing some of the above-mentioned Quests.

Skill Levels 9-14 ⇒ Crafting Earth Runes
  • This step requires you to have the Earth Tiara and a total of 176 Essences.
  • Earth Runes Grant 6,5 Runecrafting Experience per Rune.
  • The Earth Altar is situated north-east of Varrock, very close to the Sawmill (Varrock Teleport might come in handy for this step).
  • Sell Created Runes to get at least some of your Gold back, or keep them for later use. Using Pure Essences is more cost-effective (Loses/Profits from this step will be rather marginal, so do not expect to make or lose too much Gold).

Skill Levels 14-23 ⇒ Crafting Fire Runes
  • This step requires you to have the Fire Tiara and a total of 598 Essences.
  • Fire Runes Grant 7 Runecrafting Experience per Rune.
  • The Fire Altar is situated west of the Duel Arena north of Al Kharid (use the Dueling Ring Teleport to get there faster).
  • Just like in previous steps, you can either Sell or keep your Runes. Fire Runes are very cheap, so do not expect to make a profit on this step.
An alternative approach for Levels 1-24 ⇒ "The Eyes of Glouphrie" Quest
First 24 Runecrafting Levels can be achieved by completing the above-mentioned "The Eyes of Glouphrie" Quest. If you meet the Skill requirements, you should opt for this, as it will save you some money and will be a lot more engaging than AFKing at Altars.

Skill Levels 23-99 ⇒ Crafting Lava Runes
  • The Quickest way of getting from 23 to 99. Lava Runes are created by combining Fire Runes with Earth Runes.
  • Lava Runes can be created at the Fire Altar, that you used to create Fire Runes, so you should know the route well.
  • Level 82 Magic is Recommended for this, as it negates the need for a talisman that is otherwise needed for combination Runecrafting.
  • Binding Necklace will raise your Lava Rune Crafting chance to 100%, so it is a good idea to stack up on them for the best efficiency.
  • Please be aware that this step is very Click-intensive, and you will most likely hate it (leveling speed comes at a cost, sadly).

An alternative approach for Levels 13-44 ⇒ Crafting Mud Runes
  • This step requires you to have the Earth Tiara. Mud Runes are created by combining Earth Runes with Water Runes.
  • Just like with the Lava Runes method, this requires you to have Level 82 Magic and the Lunar Spellbook for the Magic Imbue Spell (alternatively you can stack up on talismans, but this will require some additional Gold investment).
  • You can craft those on either Water or Earth Altar. The Earth Altar is recommended, as it is situated in a more convenient place (north-east of Varrock, very close to the Sawmill, use the Varrock Teleport for quicker traveling), and crafting Mud Runes on it awards 0.2 more Runecrafting Experience than creating them on the Water Altar. This means that you will need Water Talismans if you don't have the Magic Imbue Spell.
  • This will be much slower than just spamming Lava Runes, but it has other advantages, the main of them being the economic one.
  • Earth Runes and Water Runes are dirt cheap (~5 Gold each) which means that making Mud Runes (~210 Gold/rune) can be very profitable for aspiring Runecrafters, and we recommend this step for players who want to take their time and make some easy Gold while leveling up the Skill.

An alternative approach for Levels 44-99 ⇒ Crafting Nature Runes
  • Nature Runes Grand 9 Runecrafting Experience per each Craft.
  • The Nature Altar is situated in Karamja, just north of the Shilo Village.
  • They can be easily sold on the Grand Exchange because they are needed for many commonly used Spells.
  • This method is slower and more dangerous than creating Lava Runes, but it is also more engaging and very profitable. At Level 44 Runecrafting you should be able to make ~300k Gold/Hour if you can travel between Abyss's Nature altar and the bank fast enough.
  • You can also Craft Nature Runes at Runecrafting Level of 91+ to achieve very high profits, thanks to the ability to craft two Nature Runes per essence (this will more than double your profits).

Note: The fastest way of making Nature Runes involves the Abyss (Complete the Enter the Abyss Quest to gain entry). You will need good Mining Skill to make your way into the inner Abyss ring. Nature Altar is situated on the north-left side of the inner ring. If you go for the Abyss method, you should use the Amulet of Glory for faster traveling between Edgeville bank and the Abyss.

An alternative approach for Levels 54-99 ⇒ Crafting Law Runes
  • These can be Crafted from Level 54 Runecraafting, and Level 95 Runecrafting is required for Doubles. Troll Stronghold Quest is needed for Crafting Law Runes (it awards the Law Talisman).
  • Crafting These is done in the Abyss, so Enter the Abyss Quest and a decent Mining Skill are needed. Law Altar is located in the North Right Side of the Abyss's Inner Ring, very close to the Death Altar.
  • Amulet of Glory will greatly speed up your traveling, so it is recommended.
  • This method gets especially profitable at Runecrafting 95+ and can provide you with about 800k Gold/Hour.

An alternative approach for Levels 59-91(99) ⇒ Crafting Double Cosmic Runes
  • At 59 Runecrafting, you can Craft Two Cosmic Runes per a single Pure Essence, which effectively doubles your Crafting efficiency.
  • 66 Agility, a Slayer Ring, a Fairy Ring, and the Amulet of Glory are recommended for this method.
  • The Cosmic Altar is situated in Zanaris.
  • You should start from the Edgeville Bank, teleport via the Slayer Ring, this will port you to Rellekka Slayer Caves, exit the caves and teleport to the Zanaris via the Fairy Ring. Then, run south to the Agility Shortcuts. When through the shortcuts, continue due south, to the mysterious ruins, the Altar is located close by. After your Crafting is completed, port back to Edgeville through the Amulet of Glory, and repeat the whole process.
  • If you are able to travel fast and have good enough APM (actions per minute), you should be able to make about 500k Gold/Hour with this method and gain some decent Runecrafting Experience in the process.

An alternative approach for Levels 65-99 ⇒ Crafting Death Runes
  • Death Runes grand 10 Runecrafting Experience per Essence Used, and have the highest Skill Requirements of all available Runes. Crafting them also requires the Mourning's Ends Part II Quest.
  • You can Craft Two Death Runes with a single Pure Essence at Level 99 Runecrafting (this is when Death Runes become truly profitable).
  • Crafting These is done in the Abyss, so Enter the Abyss Quest and a decent Mining Skill are needed. Death Altar is located on the North Right side of the Abyss's Inner Ring.
  • Amulet of Glory will greatly speed up your traveling, so it is recommended.
